Orthopedic Physical Therapy
MHPT provides evaluation and treatment of orthopedic conditions including but not limited to overuse injuries, pre-surgical and post-surgical rehabilitation including total joint replacements (hip, knee and shoulder) and spine surgery. We strive to provide our patients with information and exercises specific to them which allow them to make appropriate choices afer discharge from therapy. A few of the specialized services we offer include:
Spinal Rehabilitation
All of our therapists have training in spinal evaluation and rehabilitation. We do not adhere to one specific approach but use principles from a variety of published evidenced-based programs. Our staff prescribes an individualized program for spinal pain or symptoms referred from the spine based on thorough movement testing. On initial evaluation, we analyze how symptoms are affected with the application of static/dynamic and unloaded/loaded forces and this assessment determines the specific treatment that will allow for optimal tissue healing. The program strongly emphasizes home exercises and patient self-monitoring as the key to steady progress toward full functional restoration.
Women's Health Issues
Tana Cromwell, MPT has advanced training in treating women with pregnancy and post partum low back and sacroiliac pain. Her treatment includes techniques to improve pelvic alignment, stabilization exercises and pregnancy and post partum exercise recommendations.
She generally treats these women for three weeks on average and as needed for up to six weeks postpartum. Tana also treats women with incontinence symptoms. The program focuses on pelvic floor and hip strengthening as well as relaxation techniques and lifestyle modifications. Patients are seen weekly in the clinic and most begin to see measurable improvement within three weeks.
Foot Orthotic Intervention
Orthotic evaluation includes a detailed look at foot/ankle mechanics non- weight bearing, weight bearing and with ambulation. This may include a video-based analysis of walking and running on a treadmill. Based on the evaluation and how a patient may compensate for their altered foot mechanics, a "temporary" orthotic is fabricated to assess benefit. We decide on an orthotic depending on the need for control and shock absorption and then make the adjustments to accommodate that persons altered foot mechanics. If it is determined the orthotic is beneficial, the patient can then progress to a custom, permanent orthotic from a lab. We provide specific instructions on what type of orthotic, materials and adjustments are needed.
Hand Therapy
Crystal Harrison, OTR-L, CHT is a certified hand therapist. She provides upper extremity rehabilitation with a focus on hand injuries and upper extremity splinting which includes fractures, tendon repairs, carpal tunnel and arthritis. Treatment includes exercise, custom splint fabrication, sensory reeducation, job site evaluation and adaptive equipment for return to functional use of the hand at home, work or during recreation.
MHPT has been providing quality therapy services since 1997
